Eddie Hearn needed to see it for himself.
After hearing that
Moses Itauma was the next big thing, Hearn grabbed a ringside seat at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this past weekend and watched him up close. After observing him
dismantle Dillian Whyte in roughly two minutes, Hearn jumped on the bandwagon.
“Moses is very good, there’s no doubt about it,” Hearn told
The Ring. “Great fighter, great future.”
That future could involve a matchup with undisputed heavyweight champion
Oleksandr Usyk. That matchup, however, isn't likely to happen next.
Several contenders, including
Joseph Parker and
Agit Kabayel, are seemingly at the front of the line, waiting for their shot.
For now, the 38-year-old will sift through his options.
Last month, Usyk regained the IBF title he was stripped of by
stopping Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their DAZN main event at Wembley Stadium.
Sticking around much longer isn’t something the undefeated pound-for-pound star is interested in doing. Before the Dubois fight, Usyk admitted he only had two fights left.
With his time winding down, Hearn has a feeling that the future Hall of Famer and the sharp up-and-comer may not cross paths. But even if it were a possibility, the longtime promoter isn’t sure it would be a good idea.
Instead of leapfrogging the rest of the division and skipping steps, Hearn believes Itauma should take his time and at least fight someone who can take him rounds.
“Now, we want to see him with some live guys who are active.”
