It’s no secret that His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has big plans for
Shakur Stevenson.
And if Stevenson's promoter, Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn, were to have his way, those plans would include a unification bout with
Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Hearn spoke about upcoming plans for Stevenson and is hopeful that if the undefeated southpaw from Newark, New Jersey, can stay in the win column, he’ll land a huge fight against Davis in a bout for the WBC and WBA lightweight titles.
“I think it should,” Hearn told
The Ring. “I think Shakur against Zepeda is a great fight. I think it’s the type of fight that you really need. I believe Shakur Stevenson is the best lightweight in the world right now.”
First, though, Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) and Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) have business to handle inside the ring in separate fights.
Stevenson will put his WBC lightweight title on the line on July 12
when he faces undefeated interim WBC lightweight champion William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs) in the co-main event of The Ring’s “Ring III” pay-per-view show at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York, on DAZN PPV.
Davis is set to rematch Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-2, 12 KOs) on Aug. 16 after their controversial draw March 1.
These bouts could give each one of the biggest wins of their careers. That would only add to the allure of a potential unification bout between the undefeated southpaws in one of the best fights that can be made.
“I think [Shakur is] going to want to have those big fights,” Hearn said. “Gervonta Davis against Shakur is another tremendous fight. One of the best in the sport. Let’s get next Saturday dealt with [and] won and that will be the crowning moment for Shakur Stevenson.”
