Eddie Hearn Considers Underrated ‘Bozy’ Ennis One Of Boxing’s Best Trainers
Jaron “Boots” Ennis deserves a ton of praise.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has no problem chanting his name from the bandwagon. However, Derek “Bozy” Ennis, his father and trainer, isn’t getting enough love and recognition, according to Hearn.

“Best fighter I’ve ever worked with,” Hearn told iFL TV when referring to Jaron. “But Bozy’s one of the best trainers in the world.”

After giving Jaron perfect instructions in his first-round demolition of Uisma Lima, it’s hard to argue with Hearn. Once the opening bell rang at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Lima stood no chance in Ennis’ junior middleweight debut. Derek would later reveal that he instructed his son to go out there and not play any games, resulting in a brutal display consisting of two knockdowns and a one-minute, 58-second stoppage.

The work he’s done to mold his son into the fighter he is today isn’t the only reason why Hearn is giving Derek his flowers.

The Philadelphia-based trainer has also guided Andy Cruz, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, into lightweight title contention. Cruz is ranked No. 5 by The Ring, No. 1 by both the IBF and WBC, No. 3 by the WBA and No. 7 by the WBA, despite having just six fights under his belt.

Most recently, British southpaw Jack Catterall, who will take on Ekow Essuman in his welterweight debut on November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, began working with Derek.

With a strong stable of fighters, Hearn expects him to lead his stars to the promised land relatively soon.

“Andy Cruz is about to be world champion,” Hearn continued. “And Jack Catterall is gonna beat Essuman. Bozy’s one of the best.”
