Dzmitry Asanau vs. Francesco Patera Set For April 10 in Montreal
Eye of The Tiger announced that Dzmitry Asanau would face former European lightweight titleholder Francesco Patera in the main event at the Montreal Casino, Montreal on April 10.

In co-feature, Mary Spencer (9-2, 6 knockouts) will defend her WBA junior middleweight title for the first time against former two-division world champion Ogleidis Suarez (31-5-1, 15 KOs). The two had originally been scheduled to meet on the undercard of the now cancelled Erik Bazinyan-Steven Butler undercard on March 14.

Heading up the remainder of the undercard, fast rising Christopher Guerrero (13-0, 8 KOs) will face Oliver Quintana (22-3, 16 KOs) in a 10-round scheduled welterweight bout.

Alexandre Gaumont (12-0, 8 KOs) will face Mathis Lourenco (13-5-3, 6 KOs) in a 10-round middleweight fight. Meanwhile, up-and-coming super middleweight Moreno Fendero (9-0, 7 KOs) and fast rising junior middleweight Jhon Orobio (12-0, 11 KOs) will face as yet unknown opponents.

The event will also see the debuts of Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Wyatt Sanford and recent signee Erik Israyelyan.

Asanou (9-0, 4 KOs) was a standout amateur, who represented his homeland of Belarus at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics. He made his debut in Germany in 2022, where his first seven fights took place.

After moving operations to Canada, the 28-year-old has stepped up his game and has beaten former world title challenger Matias Rueda (TKO 5).

Patera (30-5, 11 KOs) has been a professional since 2012. The Belgium-born fighter worked his way up and took a couple of loses before winning and losing the European title to Edis Tatli (SD 12/ L UD 12) in Finland.

The 31-year-old southpaw regained the EBU belt when he upset streaking Lewis Ritson (UD 12). He notched three defenses before Covid bit and forced him to sit out 18-months. After returning with five wins, Patera was beaten by future WBO lightweight titlist Keyshawn Davis (UD 10). Since then, Patera has gone 2-1, losing to Gary Cully (UD 10).

Spencer, rated at No. 4 by The Ring at junior middleweight, was a decorated amateur, claiming three world championships (2005, 08 and 10), a 2011 Pan-Am games gold medal and was an eight-time national champion.

She turned professional in the summer of 2021 and tore through her early competition before being found out by Femke Hermans (UD 10) and though she improved in the rematch again lost (MD 10). After returning to winning ways, she bested Naomi Mannes (UD 10) for the WBA Interim title and has since been upgraded to full champion.

Suarez has been a professional since 2006. The Venezuelan-born fighter fought much of her early career in Panama. She claimed WBA featherweight and junior lightweight titles in the early 2010s.

The now 37-year-old moved up in weight and came up short on a previous trip to Canada against Marie Eve Dicaire (UD 10) for the IBF 154-pound title in November 2019. She has fought three times since. Notably shedding some ring rust last Saturday to get back in the win column and allow her to get this opportunity.
