No matter how much time passes, and no matter how many new faces pop up,
Dillian Whyte remains in the mix at the heavyweight division. That, however, could be coming to an end.
On Aug. 16 on DAZN PPV, Whyte will be thrown in with Moses Itauma in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On the surface level, something isn’t adding up.
Whyte is 37, has been an interim world champion and has fought and beaten some of the best heavyweights of his generation.
Itauma, on the other hand, hasn’t fought a contender or a former champion. This will also be the first time that he's scheduled for 12 rounds. At 20, he isn’t even legally allowed to drink alcohol in the States yet.
With a 17-year age gap, this fight doesn’t make much sense. Unless, of course, Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) is being set up to fail.
“They're trying to feed me to the wolves and make me get torn apart,” Whyte said to
The Ring. “But I've been an alpha male. I've been at the bottom of the pack, I've been in the middle of the pack, I've been at the top of the pack. I might be an older wolf, but I still got teeth. Don’t play with me.”
He knows he’s being doubted, but Whyte is feeling good about himself. He’s stopped his last three opponents and believes he has more than enough left in the tank to make a run.
Itauma will eventually have his time, Whyte said, but it won’t come at his expense.
“There’s more that I want to do and achieve. I focus on the future, not the past.”
