You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of
Dillian Whyte’s circle who believes in him.
The 37-year-old has been around the sport for roughly 15 years. And while that means he’s experienced, it also means he has plenty of miles on the clock.
Couple that with how special a talent
Moses Itauma looks and many are convinced that Whyte will be handled easily
Saturday night at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will stream live on
DAZN PPV.
Those outside of his camp usually never get under Whyte's skin. But with so much doubt being thrown in the former world heavyweight title challenger's direction, he's getting sick and tired of it.
“I’m not a chump,” Whyte told Pro Boxing Fans recently. “Obviously, people are writing me off, but I’m not a chump.”
Determined to prove naysayers wrong, Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) has immersed himself in camp over the last few months and looks to be in tip-top shape. The love handles are gone and a six-pack is now on show.
In stoppage wins over Ebenezer Tetteh and Christian Hammer in 2024, Whyte didn’t appear to be in the best shape. According to him, he prepared to the level of his opposition.
“I don't need to be 100% to win some fights,” Whyte said. “I’m a fighter. I know how to fight.”
Carrying a few extra pounds vs. Itauma wouldn’t have been a good idea. The 20-year-old has destroyed practically everyone before him.
Such was the case against Mike Balogun on May 24 at SSE Hydro in Scotland when
Itauma scored a highlight-reel, second-round knockout.
The comparisons to Mike Tyson have Whyte’s antennas up. Confidence isn’t something he’s lacking, but he isn’t willing to go out on a limb and guarantee he’ll leave the Middle East with victory.
“Let’s see what happens on Saturday.”
