Devin Haney doesn’t just want to bounce back, he needs to.
He may have wiped away the loss to Ryan Garcia off his record, but it isn’t easy to get rid of those indelible images. Haney was dazed, hurt, and at times, brutalized, during their showdown in 2024.
By the time he officially enters the ring in early May against Jose Ramirez, it’ll be one full year since things went left. That may seem like more than enough time to get both mentally and physically ready, but Arnold Barboza, who beat Ramirez back in 2024, isn’t so sure.
Barboza is a fighter. A good one too but if he were asked to be Haney’s manager, Ramirez would be the last person he would throw him in the ring with.
“I think Ramirez is gonna beat Haney," Barboza told FightHype.com. "I really do think so. I think that’s a bad fight for Haney, I think that’s a perfect fight for Ramirez.”
Getting a win over Haney would be a monumental upset from a betting standpoint but not in Barboza’s mind. When the two get it on in Times Square in New York, Ramirez will have four extra pounds to play with thanks to their showdown taking place at 144 pounds.
Ironically enough, Barboza will have a front-row seat if he chooses. He’s set to open up the card against Teofimo Lopez for his Ring and WBO titles. If he manages to take Lopez out, he’ll quickly head to the back, shower, grab some clothes, and watch the rest of the event.
Garcia will face Rolando “Rolly” Romero in the main event, while Haney, of course, will occupy the co-main slot.
Garcia vs. Romero will be a fun one but Haney’s return will have Barboza on edge.
“Who knows how Haney comes out from that fight,” continued Barboza. “He took a beating.”
