As far as Devin Haney's concerned, the boxing world will see a new and improved version on May 2 when he faces Jose Ramirez, and there needn't be any worry about his chin.
By the time he steps in between the ropes to face Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs), Haney (31-0, 1 NC, 15 KOs) will have been out of action for nearly 13 months.
The last time he boxed, he had to get off the canvas three times en route to a unanimous decision defeat to Ryan Garcia, who has since had to serve a year-long suspension for failing two pre-fight VADA drug tests for the banned substance Ostarine.
Their April 20 bout has since been ruled a no contest. Haney still has his 0, but his pride has been damaged.
Garcia, who came in three pounds overweight for the fight, drank and smoke throughout a build-up fraught with sharp-tongued insults and toxicity.
The pair will rematch on a Riyadh Season card later this year, but first they must get past their next opponents on a Ring Magazine event set to emanate live from Times Square in New York City on May 2.
Garcia takes on Rolando Romero in the main event, while Haney faces off with former unified junior-welterweight champion Ramirez in the co-feature.
Questions have been raised about Haney's chin, which Ramirez says he's keen to test. But the Oakland man says there's nothing for him to worry about.
He said at The Mayan at the LA presser earlier today: "I got up every single time against someone who was on PEDS, so I showed I got a chin."
Haney, just like he did at the New York press conference last week, promised that fans will see a new and improved version of himself in a few weeks' time.
"I'm happy and excited to be back in boxing under the lights, I'm focussed and I have tunnel vision," he said.
"The big fight is Ryan Garcia but I'm not going to look past Jose Ramirez, to get to the Ryan fight, I have to get past Ramirez.
"I'm going to be a better version of myself, I've been working behind the scenes, perfecting my craft, expect to see a new and improved Haney.[Garcia's] punishment isn't for me to determine, I'll look to punish him in the ring but my focus is on Ramirez."
Ramirez added: "I'm thankful and looking forward to May 2. I Know how much this fight means to me. I'm going to be a lot faster and stronger. It's a different division, so it'll be a different Jose Ramirez."
