De La Hoya: Ryan Garcia Should Take Rest Of The Year Off, After Successful Wrist Surgery
Golden Boy Promotions chief Oscar De La Hoya prefers Ryan Garcia to kick off his comeback campaign from injury sometime in 2026.

It was revealed last week that Garcia had right hand surgery and coud resume training in six weeks, putting him on a timeline to begin training again sometime in July.

But De La Hoya said Garcia shouldn't be so gung ho about getting back in the ring.

"He just got surgery," De La Hoya told The Ring and other media. "He's going to take a look at his shoulder now. I actually would like Ryan to think about taking the whole year off. Getting his mind straight and comfortable to where he feels good. There is nothing lost for him. He has injuries and he has to get those fixed.

"But I think more importantly he has to get his life in order. I've lived it, and I am pretty sure everyone is telling him things left and right. He has to take a deep breath, a step back, analyze, and reassess life to put it all in order. It's just my opinion. I hope he takes the year off."

On Tuesday, Garcia shared a picture of his hand with incisions and wrote, "I'll be back."

Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) fought last month, got dropped and was upset via unanimous decision against Rolando Romero to headline a Ring card in Times Square, New York.

Garcia was returning from a yearlong layoff after being suspended for testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine during his April 2024 fight against Devin Haney.
