De La Hoya: Garcia-Haney II is Not Happening Because Jose Ramirez Will Beat Devin
Oscar De La Hoya has to be the bearer of bad news when building up one of the most anticipated fights of the year involving a potential rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.

The Golden Boy Promotions chief is a very involved participant for The Ring’s card on May 2 in Times Square, New York. DAZN PPV will carry the event.

De La Hoya handles Garcia, Jose Ramirez, and Arnold Barboza Jr.

In the main event of the tripleheader, Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) faces Rolando Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) in a welterweight fight. Providing chief support will be Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) when he takes on Garcia’s archrival Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). And kicking off the card is The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. (21-1, 13 KOs) taking on Barboza (32-0, 11 KOs).

If Garcia and Haney are both victorious, they’re slated to meet in a Riyadh Season-promoted sequel as soon as October.

But not so fast, says De La Hoya.

“How does Haney come back mentally after a devastating loss to Ryan Garcia?” De La Hoya said on DAZN. “I feel that Ramirez is going to do a number on Haney. We're not going to see Garcia-Haney II. I believe Ramirez will stop the show.”

Haney is a -1100 betting favorite to beat the former unified junior welterweight champion Ramirez in their 144-pound catchweight clash, according to DraftKings. Haney hasn’t fought since suffering three knockdowns and a majority decision loss to Garcia last April. The result was later ruled a No Contest after it was revealed that Garcia tested positive for the performance enhancing drug ostarine.

“My expectation for Ryan is as if he didn't take a day off,” said De La Hoya. “I think Ryan is so determined to come back and show the world who he really is, and that sometimes takes over. Your mentality sometimes takes over your physical body. Meaning, when he goes inside that ring, it doesn't matter how long he's been off. It's going to matter how mentally stable he is. How much he wants it. Believe me when I say this – Ryan Garcia wants it more than ever.”
