DeAndre Savage’s boxing journey has taken him all over the world through 10 fights.
However, his defining moment could come just over an hour away from his hometown of Flint, Michigan.
Savage will face IBF USBA heavyweight champion Brandon Moore in
the main event of a Salita Promotions card on Friday at the Fox Theater in Detroit, Michigan. The eight-fight card will be
streamed on DAZN. The opportunity to face Moore close to home has pushed Savage (10-0, 10 KOs) in every aspect of his preparation before this career-biggest contest.
“It's added motivation,” Savage told
The Ring. “It's added to my workouts. I'm pushing harder. I'm running harder, faster. It's just adrenaline. I love it all. It's beautiful, amazing. Brandon Moore is going to feel my pain on September 19. He’s gonna feel all the struggles I've been through.”
Savage has knocked out every opponent he has faced and is yet to fight beyond the third round.
Of Savage’s 10 official fights, nine have come outside the U.S. The undefeated prospect has boxed his last four fights in Colombia, each taking place in quick succession within a two-month span. Savage has also fought in Mexico and Argentina.
While the level of opposition is far below what he’ll be facing in Moore (18-1, 10 KOs), the 34-year-old has gained valuable experience sparring against former and current top heavyweights, including Luis Ortiz,
Andy Ruiz and interim WBO champion
Joseph Parker.
“It’s the experience I gained being in those camps,” Savage said of sharing the ring with the aforementioned trio. “I've been there with a lot of guys. That's how I know that I'm a top dog in the division.”
Savage believes the experience he’s gathered, both sparring and in the ring, has helped prepare him for Friday and with facing Moore, the timing is perfect to cement himself as a rising heavyweight.
“Brandon is a good boxer,” Savage said. “He's a good fighter. This is going to be the best fight I’ve ever had in my pro career. It's going to be a good fight. I'm going to find a way to win. I don't have this fight going past six rounds. I'm going to hurt
Brandon Moore. That's my job.”
Savage added: “I said after my fight in Argentina, I would be top 10 in the heavyweight division and [Dmitry] Salita came with this offer to fight Brandon. This is perfect timing because I've been training, and I'm more than ready to punish him.”
