David Morrell Excited For David Benavidez Clash: "Bro, You're The King? I'm Coming For You!"
No one would've blamed David Morrell if he wanted to wait a bit longer. He’s been a pro fighter for barely five minutes and the top of his division is unbelievably talented. But, from the moment he left the amateur game, he only wanted to fight the best.

In only a handful of fights, Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) managed to get his hands on the WBA Regular super middleweight title. During his run, he looked at the 168-pound landscape and noticed that two names remained at the top. Ultimately, landing a shot against Canelo Alvarez became impossible. So, Morrell took aim at David Benavidez.

In the eyes of many, Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) has been considered the man to beat. So of course, Morrell began chasing him. Even when he couldn’t lock in a fight against him at 168, Morrell followed Benavidez to 175 pounds.

For The Ring’s No. 2 ranked light heavyweight, he considers himself the best man in his division, even without the hardware. But while Benavidez believes he’s the uncrowned king, Morrell's hunt will continue.

“Bro, you're the king?” questioned Morrell to Premier Boxing Champions on an episode of Gloves Off. “I’m coming for you!”

The spurious nature of Benavidez’s so-called reign annoys Morrell. But, on February 1st, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, they’ll get it on.

By and large, Benavidez has walked through the competition. Over the last few years, he’s spent his time knocking off the likes of Caleb Plant, Demetrius Andrade, and Oleksandr Gvozdyk - all of whom were past champions.

The credit he’s been receiving for those victories, however, is a bit overblown according to Morrell. As their showdown inches closer and closer, his smile is hard to hide.

The superlatives used to describe Benavidez’s game are long and flattering but in the end, Morrell, The Ring’s No. 8 ranked light heavyweight is firmly of the belief that anything Benavidez can do, he can do better...much better.

“I got everything - fast, power, defense, attack, legs that move. I got everything.”
