David Benavidez Promises To ‘Beat The Sh-t Out Of David Morrell’ At Weigh-In
LAS VEGAS – David Benavidez gave David Morrell Jr. the throat-slashing gesture as “The Mexican Monster” stared at his rival on stage Friday afternoon at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

“I’m gonna beat the f-ck out of David Morrell,” Benavidez told Premier Boxing Champions’ Miguel Flores as a decidedly pro-Benavidez crowd cheered him on. “He’s gonna see who ‘The Mexican Monster’ is tomorrow night.”

Benavidez stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 174.2 pounds Friday morning for their PBC pay-per-view main event. Morrell officially weighed 174.2 pounds in advance of a 12-round bout that will be distributed by Amazon’s Prime Video and is available via all cable and satellite operators in the United States.

The weigh-in Friday afternoon, which was open to the public, was ceremonial. Benavidez, 28, was listed Friday afternoon as almost a 2-1 favorite over Morrell, 27, by DraftKings.

They will fight for Benavidez’s WBC and Morrell’s WBA interim light heavyweight titles.

The winner will become the WBC’s mandatory challenger for whoever wins the immediate rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol three weeks from Saturday night. Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) will defend his Ring, IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO 175-pound championships versus Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) in a Riyadh Season pay-per-view main event February 22 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
