Daniel Dubois Vows To Rebuild Again, After Falling Short In Oleksandr Usyk Rematch
Much like against Anthony Joshua in September, Daniel Dubois was so confident he'd beat Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch last weekend that he launched a pre-fight party to celebrate.

Those congratulatory pats on the back and high-fives, however, were for nothing.

Usyk walked into their July 19 rematch at Wembley Stadium the same way he walks out of all his fights — with his hand raised in victory.

The first time they met, in August 2023, Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) gave the Ukrainian all he could but still came up short via ninth-round stoppage. But things were supposed to be different this time around. Dubois was as confident as ever. Could you blame him?

Consecutive stoppage wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and former two-time unified champion Joshua netted him the IBF world title, while also earning him a rematch.

Although a controversial moment overshadowed their first meeting, this sequel was markedly different.

Dubois began aggressively but Usyk quickly found his rhythm and had the measure of the 27-year-old, dropping him in the fifth before delivering a devastating left hook to finish seconds later.

Team Dubois admittedly were not the kindest with their words and insinuations of cheating during the build-up, though once the dust started to settle Dubois himself accepted defeat and tipped his cap to the unbeaten Ukrainian.

"It didn't go my way," Dubois told The Ring afterwards.

"Congratulations to Oleksandr Usyk, a great champion."

Despite the nature of his third defeat, the Briton has built up enough credit to not need much before returning to the map. His promoter, Queensberry chief Frank Warren, confirmed he'd likely be out for the rest of 2025, but The Ring's No. 2-ranked heavyweight still owns higher ratings among the sanctioning bodies.

Once he heals and decides what's next, the eight-year pro will likely have a tune-up to regain confidence before searching for another notable name.

Martin Bakole and his May foe Efe Ajagba are just two options, while keeping an eye on stablemate Fabio Wardley's progress elsewhere.

He'll now rewatch the technical errors made against Usyk and attempt to correct them.

"Back to work," Dubois said. "I'll rise again."
