Moses Itauma might be making serious inroads in the heavyweight division, but Daniel Dubois is ready to put a stop to that.
The Ring No. 2 heavyweight contender faces Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) on February 22nd on the
Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol undercard, but
Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) also has an eye on the future.
Itauma (11-0, 9 KOs), winner of The Ring's Prospect of the Year award, is in red-hot form in boxing's blue-ribbon division.
The twenty-year-old was last in action in December,
destroying Demsey McKean in a round to record the signature win of his career so far.
Since
Itauma made his debut, much has been made of his efforts to become the sport's youngest ever world heavyweight champion, a record which Mike Tyson holds.
Itauma would have to pick up a belt by May 19th, so it seems unlikely to happen now, but an opportunity may come soon after that.
Ranked No. 6 by the WBO, Itauma could be close to a mandatory position by the end of the year.
But IBF champion Dubois, who crushed Anthony Joshua with a fifth-round knockout to win his title outright back in September, is more than happy to give Itauma a shot.
The pair have sparred before and Dubois knows what a talent the Chatham-born fighter is.
Dubois told The Ring: "I've done a few rounds with the kid. He's lightning, isn't he?
"We're gonna see, it's a good match-up for the future. To be the first man to stop him, I like the sound of that. Line 'em up.
"But first the aim is to collect all the belts, I want the Usyk rematch."
Itauma is set to be in action once again on March 15th in Liverpool, England, against an opponent yet to be confirmed.
