Daniel Dubois Announces Split From Trainer Don Charles Following Oleksandr Usyk Defeat
Daniel Dubois has announced he has parted ways with veteran trainer Don Charles in the wake of his fifth-round stoppage loss to Oleksaandr Usyk.

The 27-year-old linked up with Dubois 14 weeks before he fought Usyk the first time in August 2023. Though Dubois lost that fight, he went on the best run of his career soon after, knocking out Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, picking up the IBF title on the way.

In his rematch with Usyk, however, things unravelled for Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) once again as he was dropped and stopped in emphatic fashion in front of 90,000 fans at London's Wembley Stadium.

And now he's confirmed he won't be cornered by 64-year-old Charles moving forward.

"I'd like to thank Don Charles for the hard work and effort he's put into me over the last 18 months," Dubois said in a clip released on social media. "But now I feel like I need a fresh change and a new start for this next phase of my career, where I look to become a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.

Last week, assistant coach Kieran Farrell announced he would no longer be working with Dubois.

A statement read: “I have made the decision to part ways with Team Dubois. In the 18 months with Daniel Dubois, we’ve achieved so much, including an unforgettable night at Wembley Stadium. Helping Daniel become world heavyweight champion has been truly rewarding on a number of levels. I wish Daniel all the best going forward."

He added: “I won’t be making any further comment at present, but needless to say, I’m excited for what’s next for myself and look forward to many more world champions.”

Dubois began his professional career at East London's famous Peacock Gym where he was trained by Martin Bowers, before moving on to work with Shane McGuigan.

It's been reported that Dubois has already lined up a new trainer in Tony Sims, who led Anthony Joshua to his first ever world title in 2016. Sims currently trains Conor Benn and Craig Richards, among others, and recently linked up with heavyweight Johnny Fisher.
