The heavyweight contest is a professional eight-rounder with a 245-pound weight limit and it will take place December 19 at Kaseya Center in Miami on Netflix.
Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) was
supposed to face Gervonta Davis in an exhibition over the weekend, but the meeting was canceled earlier this month once Davis faced a new round of domestic violence allegations.
Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), a former two-time unified heavyweight champion, emerged as the winner to fight Paul from a group of
candidates that included Andre Ward, Francis Ngannou, Nate Diaz, Ryan Garcia, and Terence Crawford.
UFC and Zuffa Boxing CEO Dana White has had a cantankerous relationship with Paul, and he alluded that one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of the era could be the perfect person to end the novice's boxing career.
“Oh Jesus. That’s a [expletive] bad idea. That’s a bad idea,” White told reporters.
“But let me tell you what, a lot of people will watch that one. Sure, [I’ll watch]. You know what everybody’s tuning in for on that one. I think everybody’s going to get what they’ve finally been waiting for."
Joshua is no stranger to crossover clashes. The 36-year-old Brit violently knocked out former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou in two rounds last year.
He’ll now look to right the wrongs from his last fight against Daniel Dubois, who dominated Joshua and stopped him in five rounds.
