Crawford Wants Canelo Fight To ‘Leave Legacy That Will Surpass Our Lifetime’
A potential super fight between Terence Crawford and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been marinating for well over a year.

Crawford, a four-divisions titlist and former three-division Ring champion, currently holds the WBA junior middleweight title. He is less interested in defending the belt, than he is eagrer to move up to 168 pounds for a crack at the super middleweight king.

Alvarez, however, isn’t so inclined. The Ring/unified super middleweight champion believes he wouldn’t get proper credit for beating a smaller fighter.

Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, is bullish on the fight and wants to work with Crawford and Alvarez to strike a deal for the matchup in 2025.

“I’m always confident that I can win any fight that I step in the ring to have,” Crawford told Hall of Fame fighter Carl Froch in an interview.

“You know, Canelo is a big, strong competitor, he’s a great fighter, a future Hall of Famer. That’s what we’re in the game for, to leave a legacy that will surpass our lifetime. That’s why we fight so that all the questions can be answered on fight night. I don’t want to go in there and say, ‘I’m gonna box him.’ When I get in the ring, I might stay in front of him. I’m the type of fighter that makes adjustments on the fly. Throughout my career, I do what’s necessary to get the job done. That’s what we’re in the game for, to leave a legacy.”

Crawford last fought in August and beat Israil Madrimov via unanimous decision during his junior middlweight debut. Alalshikh recently stated that Crawford would be ready to fight in May, as he’s currently tending to a small injury.

Alvarez last fought in September and scored a unanimous decision win against Edgar Berlanga. Alvarez should be returning in May for his traditional fighting date around the Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo.
