Claressa Shields Breaks Down 2-Year, 4-Fight Deal; Wants Mikaela Mayer Next

Without many options in the heavyweight division, Claressa Shields could move down multiple divisions to face former Olympic teammate Mikaela Mayer, a unified junior middleweight champ.
Claressa Shields is already rich, but now that the ink has dried on her new deal, her net worth is about to skyrocket.
On Thursday morning, the two-time Olympic gold medalist announced a new partnership with Salita Promotions and Wynn Records worth at least $8 million. Initially, Shields’ deal was a bit vague, but fans and media members wanted to know more.
She gave a more comprehensive breakdown after a press conference in Manhattan.
“It’s a two-year deal, four fights,” Shields explained. “I’m gonna make way more than $8 million. I’m probably gonna make $15-16 million the first year. I already got a $3 million signing bonus.”
Now that she’s financially satisfied, Shields (17-0, 3 KOs) and her team will begin looking for opponents. Worthy ones at that.
Lani Daniels, by all accounts, didn’t qualify as one.
The two threw down in the middle of the ring July 26 at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit. At no point was Shields in any sort of trouble on the night, as she cruised to a unanimous-decision win to defend her IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight titles.
At this stage, the three-time undisputed champion doesn’t see anyone who can challenge her either in or around her weight class. But a few divisions below? That’s another story entirely.
“I think in maybe 2026, I would love to make a fight with Mikaela Mayer happen,” Shields continued.
Mayer, Shields’ Olympic teammate in 2016, is walking around with some new hardware thanks to her lopsided points win over Mary Spencer on October 30 at Montreal Casino in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Those WBA, WBC, and WBO 154-pound titles in Mayer’s possession look awfully familiar to Shields. Back in 2021, she fully unified the junior middleweight titles with a win over Marie Eve Dicaire.
At the moment, Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) is hoping to finish what she started by becoming an undisputed champion. But while she’ll continue to look for a big fight, Shields has made it clear that Mayer’s win over Spencer caught her attention.
“The way she beat up Mary Spencer, I would love to see her throw those punches at me,” Shields said. “That would be a great time.”
