Boxing fans don't have to wait until April 26 to see Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn put their hands on each other as they were given a little taster at today's press conference in Manchester.
Eubank Jr (34-3, 25 KOs) and Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) came face-to-face in front of media and fans to promote their fight, set to take place in two months at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
After 20 minutes of fiery talk from both men and their respective promoters Eddie Hearn and Ben Shalom, Eubank Jr and Benn came together for a face-to-face.
Eubank Jr leaned in to hear Benn's words a little clearer, but after pulling back, the 35-year-old took an egg out of his pocket and slapped it into his opponent's face.
A melee ensued and both men had to be separated by security at Manchester Central.
Eubank Jr said during the presser: "I see people saying Benn is gonna knock me out early because he's too young, too ferocious, too angry, or Eubank wins on points because he's too big.
"Apparently the only way I can win this fight is because of my size, where's the f---ing respect, 34 fights, 25 KOs, I'm a better fighter than him in every single respect."
Benn said: "I'm excited to get in there and end his career. I just can't take him seriously, look at his career, every time's stepped up he's failed. This is the end of your career, you chose to fight a welterweight over Janibek [Alimkhanuly], [Hamzah] Sheeraz and [Carlos] Adames, your career is done. You're going to get rendered unconscious by a welterweight.
"Once I knock him out, I'll go back down to 147 and win a world title."
Eubank Jr and Benn are set to come together for another press conference event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Thursday, but Hearn hinted the presser may now not happen.
"I don't know if we can even do the presser on Thursday," he told the Matchroom broadcast after. "When Conor and Nigel see him...this isn't going to calm down in 48 hours."
In October 2022, before Benn was originally supposed to fight Eubank Jr, he tested positive for banned substance Clomifene in two separate Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) tests.
He was provisionally suspended but last November his suspension was withdrawn after UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) revealed the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) was 'not comfortably satisfied' with it and the British Boxing Board of Control's (BBBofC) assertion an anti-doping violation had been committed.
Eubank Jr tweeted after the presser: "Apparently egg contamination was the reason for his two failed drugs tests. So I contaminated him with an egg."
