Chris Billam-Smith Picks Up Bruising Unanimous Decision Victory Over Brandon Glanton In Eubank Jr-Benn Opener
Chris Billam-Smith got his world title dreams back on track with a 12-round points win over American Brandon Glanton on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The fight was the first of the night at Ring Magazine's inaugural boxing event in London, which is streaming live on DAZN PPV.

The build-up to the bout, at least from Glanton's side, was ill-mannered. The Atlanta man made remarks about Billam-Smith's son and promised to leave Bournemouth's own with brain damage at Thursday's press conference.

Billam-Smith (21-2, 13 KOs) retorted that his brash foe would be reminded about respect once their fight had reached its conclusion.

Ultimately, it was Billam-Smith who proved to be correct. A bruising, pummelling, back-and-forth contest which, in the end, the 34-year-old would take control of at the midway point, winning unanimously with scores of 116-113, 116-112, 116-112.

The first round begun with Billam-Smith looking to establish his jab, but by the end of the first three minutes of the contest, both men had resorted to throwing power shots without too much caution. CBS caught his man with a beautifully-timed right hand before his American opponent came back with a left hook of his own.

Billam-Smith's uppercut came into play in the second, but he would also bring in big body shots as Glanton (20-3, 17 KOs) tried to force the pace and pressure, often smothering much of his work.

Both men made a ferocious start to the third round but it was Billam-Smith, once again, who would land eye-catching shots for the most part. Glanton, however, was starting to find home with the left hook more often. He also sneaked through a straight right which shellacked his opponent's head right back.

The frenetic pace continued in the fourth. Glanton, the man stepping on the gas; Billam-Smith boxing and countering with power shots from his back foot. Glanton's jab then became a factor, forcing Billam-Smith use lateral movement more than he'd have been comfortable with.

Glanton continued with the pressure in the fifth, landing combinations, plenty of them on Billam-Smith's gloves, before the Englishman came back with a huge right to stifle his opponent's momentum. It was only for a moment, though, as Glanton replied with a vicious left hook of his own.

The sixth round saw Glanton hit the deck, but only because of a slip. Once he made his way back to his feet, Billam-Smith pounced and landed a big right hand to stumble the American, who looked like he was beginning to tire, backwards.

Perhaps it was from exhaustion, but for the second time in two rounds, Glanton became acquainted with the ring mat again, the referee quick to rule it a slip despite a connection just prior from Billam-Smith.

The seventh brought more bruising action. Billam-Smith's wife Mia, the mother of his son, Frank, could be seen at ringside covering her eyes as her husband and the man who had come out with those previously-mentioned dastardly statements, went to war.

The chin of Billam-Smith, who's shown throughout his career that he's more than accustomed to dealing with pressure, held up to a howitzer of a shot from Glanton in the eighth. By the end of the round, both men had begun to lean and smother; the physical stress beginning to take its toll.

Billam-Smith landed one of his best shots of the fight in the ninth, an uppercut which snapped his opponent's head back. A moment later, Glanton looked staggered again after the pair both connected with shots at the same time, but forward he marched once again in search of a fight changer, with the experience of CBS starting to show.

The tenth round was Billam-Smith's best for a few. He looked stable on his legs and took command of the centre of the ring, landing right hand after right hand as Glanton came forward with tired legs.

Glanton's output improved in the penultimate round, but Billam-Smith would continue to find a home with power shots and jabs. By the end of the 11th stanza, Glanton had begun to swing wildly, missing with left and right hooks as his opponent exited the pocket.

More of the same came in the final round as Billam-Smith boxed to instructions while Glanton desperately looked for a shot which would not only change the trajectory of the fight, but his entire career.

It was Billam-Smith, though, a man who is looking to get back on the world title track, having lost his WBO belt to Gilberto Ramirez at the end of 2024, who prevailed.

Not only were his two-time title dreams left alive, but he could leave Spurs revelling in the fact he would get home to his wife and son unharmed, and with a victory firmly in the bag.
