Former boxing champ Carson Jones has tragically passed away at the age of 38 after suffering from surgery complications following an operation on his esophagus.
Former opponent and friend Caleb Truax, who was a world champion himself, confirmed the news on X, writing: "Rest in paradise to my man, boxing lost a good one, too early."
Truax had confirmed days prior that Jones was suffering with an illness in relation to his surgery.
He wrote: "Boxing community, we need some prayers for former world title challenger Carson Jones. He had complications during a surgical procedure and my friend can use all the good vibes he can get."
Jones revealed to his followers on social media earlier this year that he was suffering with gastrointestinal issues.
He posted at the time: “I finally have surgery on my esophagus on Monday. I cannot wait. This s--t is driving me insane.
"I’ve had a max of three bites of food per day for the last few weeks, with a loss of 35 pounds. Some days, there is no food or drink at all.”
Jones (41-15-3, 2 NC, 31 KOs) hadn't fought since 2023 but is best known for his two fights with former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.
He first fought Brook in Sheffield in 2012 and gave the Brit one of the toughest fights of his career, losing by majority decision.
The pair rematched a year later but Jones was stopped in the eighth round of the contest.
Jones also had fights with former welterweight world champion Antonio Margarito, Brian Rose, Ted Cheeseman and Steven Butler.
