Caroline Dubois Makes Unification Intentions Clear With Terri Harper Callout
“Terri Harper. That’s who I want. Terri, I want you.”

Callouts don’t get much clearer than that. Just moments after being forced to settle for a technical draw with Jessica Camara, WBC world lightweight champion Caroline Dubois wasted little time in laying the groundwork for a unification fight with her British rival and existing WBO title holder Terri Harper.

Officially, Dubois (10-0-1, 5 KOs) now has a draw blemishing her previously pristine record. In reality, she dominated the two rounds her maiden title defence against Camara lasted in an anticlimactic co-main on Sky Sports in Sheffield this weekend.

Although the fight was officially halted at the start of round three after a head clash the round prior left Camara with a bad cut over her left eye, Dubois dropped the Canadian in the opener and her razor-sharp long left hand also had Camara’s right eye closing from underneath.

Had Dubois been given even a minute longer to work, there is every likelihood that she would have recorded an eye-catching stoppage victory. As it was, because four rounds hadn’t been completed, the precociously talented 24-year-old had to settle for a technical draw.

“I don’t think she wanted it,” Dubois told Sky Sports. “I think it was her right eye that was swollen up; that was from a punch. Obviously with the cut, the blood was coming down the side of her face. I’m punching her so maybe it’s splattering on her eye but she didn’t want it, man. It was either getting stopped by the doctor or I was.

“I’m so thankful, I wish Jessica well. There’s no bad blood or any of that, wish her the best and I hope she has a safe flight home.”

Dubois won the interim version of the WBC title last August but Katie Taylor's decision to vacate the full title saw her upgraded to full champion last month. Now, she has set her sights on proving herself to be the best in the 135lb division.

Her trainer Shane McGuigan fully supports her desire and believes that unifying the lightweight division will be just another step in a long, dominant career seeing her climb through the weight classes.

“Unification and then an undisputed,” McGuigan said. “She’s going to beat them all. Then she’s going to go up and she’s going to beat them all at many, many weight divisions above, trust me. She’s the best female fighter on the planet by a mile.”

After such a brief appearance, Dubois will be keen to return to action quickly and looks set to feature on Boxxer’s all-female card at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall on March 7th. The show will be headlined by the welterweight unification clash between WBC, IBF champion Natasha Jonas and WBA, Ring titleholder Lauren Price.

Whether a fight with thee-weight world champion Harper (15-2-2, 6 KOs) can be put together for that date or whether it will take place later this year, another all-British unification clash seems likely to happen before too long.
