Carlos Canizales will travel to hostile territory to defend his WBC light flyweight title for the first time against
Knockout CP Freshmart on December 4 in Bangkok, Thailand, it was announced Tuesday.
The fight is set to be staged in conjunction with the 63rd annual WBC convention, which takes place from November 30 through December 5 in Bangkok.
Canizales (28-3-1, 20 KOs), a 32-year-old from Caracas, Venezuela, won the title in August with a fifth-round knockout in a rematch against
Panya Pradabsri. Canizales suffered a majority decision defeat against Pradabsri last December.
Canizales has alternated wins and losses over his last four fights, which also included a majority decision defeat against
Kenshiro Teraji during a title fight in January 2024.
Canizales is
The Ring’s No. 1-ranked fighter at 108 pounds. The Ring junior flyweight title is vacant.
Freshmart (28-1, 11 KOs), whose real name is
Thammanoon Niyomtrong, is a 35-year-old from Surin, Thailand, and a long-reigning 105-pound titleholder.
Freshmart held a version of the WBA light flyweight title since 2014 and defended the belt for nearly a decade until he got stopped by
Oscar Collazo last November in a title unification bout. Freshmart has since strung three wins against unheralded competition in Thailand.
