Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford Display Confidence, Respect For Each Other On Piers Morgan Uncensored
The promotion for the superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence “Bud” Crawford found its way to Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Alvarez and Crawford sat down with Morgan on his show for a nearly one-hour interview and exuded respect for each other while previewing the fight and detailing what led them to this point. The pound-for-pound greats also expressed confidence that after they finally meet in the ring on Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Netflix for Alvarez's undisputed and Ring Magazine super middleweight titles, they’ll be the one exiting the ring having cemented himself as the best fighter of this era.

“This is a very special fight,” Alvarez said. “Two greats in the last era are fighting each other. It’s going to be big. It’s going to be the biggest fight in a long time.

“I can’t imagine thinking about getting beat,” Crawford said. “That’s not something that I think about. I never like to think about losing.”

Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is a four-division champion and enters the bout on a six-fight winning streak. From Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, he's also a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion and achieved the feat for a second time when he defeated William Scull by unanimous decision on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a less-than-thrilling affair.

Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is also a four-division champion and became the undisputed champ twice, winning all four major belts at junior welterweight and welterweight. The Omaha, Nebraska, native added a junior middleweight title to his resume in his last fight when he defeated a tricky Israil Madrimov of Uzbekistan for his WBA stop on Aug. 3 in Los Angeles, California, by unanimous decision. Crawford became the undisputed junior welterweight champion in 2017 when he defeated Julius Indongo by third-round stoppage and the undisputed welterweight champion in 2023 when he dominated Errol Spence Jr., dropping him three times en route to a ninth-round stoppage.

Crawford has yet to fight above 154 pounds and will make a 14-pound jump to face Alvarez. While a lot is made of the size difference, Crawford said it isn’t what he’s most concerned about as he prepares.

“Canelo is very skillful,” Crawford said. “I think they’re just basing their opinion off of his size. I’m not going into this fight looking at his size. He’s a tremendous boxer. He’s a tremendous counterpuncher. He’s got a good defense. We’ve watched Canelo a lot for a long time and the reason why he’s at the top of the sport is not because of his size.”

Alvarez was also complimentary of Crawford’s skill set. Still, he remained steadfast that there’s a lot about his game that Crawford won’t realize until they finally step into the ring.

“He’s a very skillful fighter,” Canelo said. “He has maybe a lot of things better than me. Fighters judge me out of the ring, but when they get into the ring with me, they find out it’s different. I have a lot of talent. I have a lot of things they don’t know until they’re in the ring with me.”

Rarely does a fight come together that can answer who is the best fighter of their time. That will be the case on Sept. 13, and given the stakes, a win for either Alvarez or Crawford may do even more than stamp their place as the best of this era.

“I can’t say anything about how it’s going to work and everything because I never fought Terence Crawford before,” Canelo said. “We’re going to find out on September 13th. That’s why we are here, to see who is the best.”

“A win against Canelo Alvarez would put me on Mount Rushmore,” Crawford said. “I think I would be one of the greatest fighters ever. ... Everything is riding on this one moment. This is it.”
