Canelo Alvarez On Potential Dmitry Bivol Rematch: 'Anything Can Happen, I Like Challenges'
Canelo Alvarez has his eyes set on two-time undisputed status as he prepares to face William Scull in his first Riyadh Season event, but bigger challenges are lying in wait for the Mexican legend.

Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) last fought back in September against Edgar Berlanga on Mexican Independence Day, winning by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

Since then, though, the former undisputed super-middleweight champion has had to relinquish his IBF title, leaving his Riyadh opponent Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) to pick it up against Vladimir Shishkin in the meantime.

Alvarez will seek to gain it back this spring when the pair headline on May 3 in Saudi Arabia, but it's no secret that bigger challenges await the boxing icon beyond the summer.

Having signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season at the beginning of February, Alvarez is set to feature in numerous big-money bouts until at least the third quarter of 2026.

Should he get past Scull, an undisputed 168-pound defence against Terence Crawford awaits him in September, and there's been chatter about facing the winner of Chris Eubank-Conor Benn, set to take place on April 26, in 2026.

Also in the offing for Alvarez is a potential rematch with undisputed light-heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol,(24-1, 12 KOs) who overcame Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20 KOs) to win all four straps last month in Riyadh.

Alvarez lost to Bivol at 175 pounds by unanimous decision in May 2022, and has yet to get the win back. But now that the Russian has every belt in the division, that option could be something for the 34-year-old to explore at some point.

"Anything can happen. I like challenges, we’ll see," he said when asked about a Bivol rematch at Thursday's press conference to promote the Scull fight.

Bivol overcame Beterbiev by majority decision in a huge rematch on February 22 earlier this year, after losing by MD to compatriot Russian in October 2024.

Following his win over Beterbiev, Bivol has expressed an openness to rematch Canelo, but has also opened the door to a trilogy with Beterbiev, as well as a move to cruiserweight.

If Alvarez is to get a second shot at Bivol, however, he must get past Scull, who is undefeated so far in his professional career.

Alvarez added at Thursday's presser in New York: “I feel great, I’m motivating myself, fighting in other countries, this fight is very important to me. I never take anything easy. I know he has skill, so I'm going to prepare myself and put on a good show in Saudi for Turki. Thank you, it’s going to be exciting. I’m very motivated for this fight.

“You know his style is difficult, I’m going to try my best. Hurt my opponent as much as I can, I’m going to do that on May 3.

"I’m very excited about the fight. Always in my career I have wanted to fight in other countries. I feel very excited."
