BARNSLEY, England —
Callum Simpson and
Ivan Zucco comfortably made the super middleweight limit ahead of their clash for the vacant European title. A sizeable crowd gathered outdoors at The Glass Works to watch the weigh-in ahead of Saturday night’s fight.
Surprisingly, Simpson and Zucco scaled 165lbs, way below the 168lb limit.
Around 15,000 fans are expected at Oakwell Stadium as local hero Simpson (17-0, 12 KOs)
tries to add the prestigious blue and gold belt to his British and Commonwealth titles. Zucco (21-0, 18 KOs), a heavy-handed Italian southpaw, will have other ideas.
“Plenty inside the limit,” Simpson told Sky Sports after stepping down from the stage. “I weren’t sure if the official scales were a bit light or heavy so I made sure I came in weigh below he limit on my scales. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”
“I trained for many, many months so the weight is simple,” said Zucco.
IBO junior welterweight champion
Adam Azim was added to the card earlier this week and he weighed in at 143 for his non-title eight-round fight with Mexico’s Eliot Chavez (12-7-1, 7 KOs), who also tipped the scales at 143.
