Bruce Carrington certainly wants to grab a world title but would prefer winning it the "right" way.
Throughout the entirety of his career, Carrington (15-0, 9 KOs) has done things correctly. He’s always made weight, continually worked hard in the gym, and more than anything, taken care of business under the bright lights.
In doing so, the 28-year-old fought his way to the top spot on practically every sanctioning body's list at 126 pounds. Although he had his pick of the litter, there was something about
Stephen Fulton and his WBC title that Carrington was fond of.
To a certain extent, Carrington respects Fulton and views him as the most accomplished featherweight around. However,
multiple reports suggest Fulton is on the verge of moving up in weight to take on WBC junior-lightweight champion O’Shaquie Foster (23-3, 12 KOs).
Carrington isn’t exactly pleased with what’s taking place but if Fulton ditches his belt, there’s a chance that the New York native
could fight for a vacant strap. To some, a belt is a belt, regardless of the circumstances. Carrington though, doesn’t want anything handed to him.
“If I had no choice then obviously I would go the vacant route,” explained Carrington to The Ring. “But I want to beat a champion. You get more respect that way. You gotta beat the man to be the man.”
Carrington will have to navigate through a ton of moving parts but if Fulton is off the table, he’ll instead turn his attention towards Nick Ball (22-0-1, 13 KOs), the division's WBA champion.
Ball, unlike Fulton, appears comfortable at 126 pounds and had no trouble
taking out TJ Doheny in a recent title defense March 15. It’s unknown if the UK native is interested in facing the highly-ranked contender for his third title defense but Carrington's hopeful that circumstances will help back him into a dark corner.
“I want to beat the guy that has the WBA belt," continued Carrington. "And that’s Nick Ball.”
