It’s getting to the point where this current generation of fighters is unfamiliar with the ones who came before them.

Brock Jarvis, 27, was all smiles when recently given the news. After two consecutive knockout victories, he’ll officially attempt to grab his biggest win when taking on Keith Thurman on March 12th, in Sydney Australia.

It’s been a while since the former unified champ was spotted in the ring. When last heard from, he was busy making things look incredibly easy against Mario Barrios, winning a lopsided decision. Impressive yes? But that version of Thurman was three years ago. Now? At the age of 36 and attempting to recapture his flame, Jarvis (22-1, 20 KOs) believes there isn’t anything left in his tank.

“I’m about to beat up on an old man who’s well and truly past it,” said a smiling Jarvis during a joint press conference.

When he was at the top of his game, Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) was the welterweight division’s lead dog. But, just when he reached the sport’s pinnacle, injuries and incredibly long layoffs proved to be his downfall.

The dubious voices that continue to surround him have also infiltrated the thinking of Jarvis. After coming up short against Liam Paro in 2022, the young Aussie vowed to get better. Wins over Marlon Paniamogan and Adrian Rodriguez have rebuilt his confidence but in terms of proving that he’s one of the best fighters in the world, Jarvis believes that will come with a victory over Thurman.

If this was a few years prior, Jarvis would be wiping the sweat from his brow with a shaky hand. At this stage, however, he’s convinced that Thurman is only the same in name, not in game.

“It’s all over,” continued Jarvis. “The time is up. You had your time.”
