Boxing drama “Bang Bang” starring Tim Blake Nelson opens in select theaters in the United States on Sept. 12.
The film's synopsis is as follows:
“Retired boxer Bernard “Bang Bang” Rozyski (Nelson) is inspired to try his hand at training once he reconnects with his estranged grandson. While their training brings Bang Bang out of the hole he’s been living in, everyone questions his motivations, including an ex-girlfriend from decades ago who was privy to Bang Bang’s meteoric rise in the sport in the 80s. Is Bang Bang merely passing down inherited rage, or is there true altruism behind his tutelage?”
Nelson is known for his roles in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), and Leaves of Grass (2009).
Sunrise Films acquired the North American distribution rights for the film after it made the festival rounds at Tribeca, Locarno, Deauville American Film Festival, and Oldenburg. "Bang Bang" is directed by Vincent Grashaw, and the script is written by Will Janowitz. The cast features Glen Pummer, Kevin Corrigan, Nina Arianda, Andrew Liner, Erica Gimpel, and Daniella Pineda.
“With Bang Bang, we were drawn to a powerfully written story filled with emotionally rich characters,” Andrew Nerger, Sunrise’s head of U.S. and international distribution, told Variety. “Vincent Grashaw has crafted a film that poses a fascinating question: what happens to a larger-than-life athlete when their career ends? Tim Blake Nelson delivers what may be the most powerful performance of his already storied career.”
