Billam-Smith Expecting Glanton Onslaught: "He's Just Going To Try and Bowl Me Out"
Chris Billam-Smith is under no illusions as to what awaits him in his make-or-break fight with Brandon Glanton at Tottenham on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV.

The 34-year-old is returning to the ring for the first time since he dropped a unanimous decision to Gilberto Ramirez in their showdown for the WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles.

The defeat left him at 20-2 (13) but he did not consider retirement for a moment as he instead plots his route to becoming a two-time world champion.

But Glanton, who shares an identical record with CBS, is also attempting to muscle his way into the world title picture and arrives in north London off the back of the best victory of his career, an 11th-round away win over Russian Aleksei Egorov in Moscow last June.

It was the 17th stoppage victory of Glanton’s career and Billam-Smith is not expecting the man from Riverside, California to leave things up to the judges on away soil.

“He’s just going to throw lots of shots and press forward the whole time,” Billam-Smith told The Ring.

“He comes forward, he throws at high volume and he’s gritty. What else could he do? I expect him to come out and just launch attacks at me to be honest. He is just going to try and bowl me out.

“That’s what we have prepared for and Shane McGuigan is very good at figuring out what I’ll be able to do because of what he does. But having said that, he has never boxed anyone like me so you can’t predict how he will react on the night.

“But we know his strengths and his weaknesses and he can’t really change those overnight.

“I’ve watched bits of him and the work has been done with sparring partners and in camp. Now it is just about tweaking on the night.”

Billam-Smith has also continued his work alongside his secret weapon Greg Meehan, the performance psychology specialist who has helped his preparation for the last few fights.

“It is different this time because it’s the first time we have worked together following a loss,” Billam-Smith said.

“But the work has been much the same. Obviously we do a lot of breathwork sessions but he also knows his psychology as well so he's always handy to speak to in that sense and if you need to get something off your chest or say I'm feeling a certain way, he's always there to speak to about that and he understands the body and the brain and the psychology behind things as well so he's a great person to have in my team.

“I’ve had to overcome some hurdles in this camp and that’s what it’s about - there’s no point plain sailing. I think you always have to grit something out, whether that’s mentally, physically or both.

“I think I’ve added a few bits to my game and I think that's going to be a key factor in this fight. Just a few adjustments here and there but still keeping all my strengths, all that tenacity, all the punch output, the grit that I've shown which I'm still going to need in this fight.”
