Filipino featherweight, Bernard Torres, 18-2 (8 KOs), has made the move to Liverpool, England where he will train at Paul Stevenson’s thriving Everton Red Triangle gym.
Last February, the 28 year-old southpaw travelled to New York and produced a game effort before being knocked out by Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington, 14-0 (8 KOs), in the fourth round of their fight at Madison Square Garden’s Theatre.
Torres - who previously lived in Norway - has been attracted to Liverpool due to the quality of training and sparring available at the busy E.R.T.
As well as WBA champion and Ring Magazine No.3 ranked featherweight, Nick Ball, the home is gym to a number of talented, championship level fighters who operate around the lower weight categories.
Ball, 21-0-1 (12 KOs), is preparing for his title defense against Ireland’s former IBF super bantamweight champion, T.J Doheny, 26-5 (20 KOs), which takes place at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on March 15th.
A number of Ball’s gym mates will appear on the undercard.
British and Commonwealth super bantamweight champion, Andrew Cain, 13-1 (12 KOs), has an attractive looking fight with former WBC flyweight title holder, Charlie Edwards, and another talented 122lb fighter, Brad Strand, faces Romanian dangerman, Ionut Baluta.
Super bantamweight hope, Peter McGrail, 11-1 (6 KOs), is a long time member of the gym and his brother, Joe, 11-0 (5 KOs), is an unbeaten featherweight.
Torres has impressed during his time in England and the hope is that a slot will be found for him to make his British debut on the show.
