BEN WHITTAKER has today started camp with new trainer Andy Lee.

The 27-year-old has not boxed since his controversial technical draw with Liam Cameron in Riyadh on October 12, which ended with both men falling over the top rope in the sixth.

Whittaker and Cameron have since agreed to a highly anticipated rematch, which will top a Boxxer card at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham on April 20.

Now the Surgeon has upped sticks in search of a new trainer as he bids to draw a line under the Cameron saga in emphatic fashion and on Monday arrived in Dublin for the first day of camp under new coach Lee at the Ballybrack Boxing Club.

West Bromwich man Whittaker started his professional career under the tutelage of Sugar Hill Steward but that relationship ended last year and he has since been working with Joby Clayton, his former amateur coach.

But he has now decided to join up with Lee, another Kronk man like Steward, for the next stage of his career. Lee is one of the most highly respected - and busiest - coaches in the game and was in the corner for Joseph Parker’s knockout victory over Martin Bakole and then Paddy Donovan’s DQ defeat on consecutive weekends.

Now he is straight back in the gym with Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) and is desperate to reignite his charge towards the top of the division after his progress was checked by Cameron last year.

Whittaker said “Before, I was nice and cosy, I was at home with my amateur coach [Clayton] but now I need to do something to be outside my comfort zone and that’s the position I’m in now.

"A new voice, new ears, new eyes, all of that stuff really, Just someone who can critique you differently and see things that other people haven’t seen before.

“I want to get better if I can, I want to improve and these are things I need to do.”
