It took months of back-and-forth at the negotiating table, but Ben Whittaker vs Liam Cameron 2 is finally locked in for April 20th.
The bout, set to take place at the bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England, will be shown live by Sky Sports in the UK and promoted by Boxxer.
Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) fought Cameron (23-6-1, 1 NC, 10 KOs) on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol last October and the bout ended in a controversial technical draw.
Their clash was a close one, with Whittaker struggling to incur the same damage on Cameron he had on previous opponents in his professional career.
In the fifth round, Whittaker and Cameron became entangled and stumbled towards the ropes where the contest reached its bizarre conclusion.
Wolverhampton-born Whittaker fell backwards over the ropes and took veteran Cameron with him; the pair tumbling to the outside of the ring and landing heavily on their backs.
Whittaker was unable to continue and the result was read out as a draw, with the cards reading 58-57 to the Olympic silver-medalist, 58-57 to Cameron and 58-58 apiece.
After leaving the ring area in a wheelchair, it was revealed that Whittaker sprained his ankle and aggravated a pre-existing neck injury in the fall.
Following the fight, Whittaker had to defend himself from critics who accused him of feigning his injury, but the former Team GB athlete has shown he's ready for the challenge all over again.
Whittaker said: "This is an opportunity for me to give the fans a decisive result. There's no doubt in my mind that this time, there will be no room for controversy. This time, we will finish it on my terms. To all the fans who supported me and even those that have doubted me, this one's for you. April 20th, I’m home and I’m going to give the people something special.”
Cameron added: “I’m pleased to get this fight confirmed. I feel like I was winning the last fight before he tried pretending to be a WWE star and pulled me over the top rope. I really believe I would have stopped him, but that’s in the past now, we’re ready to go on April 20th. I want to thank my manager and my promoters Frank and George Warren for helping to get this rematch over the line. I look forward to getting in there and finishing the job.”
Frazer Clarke (8-1, 6 KOs), months removed from his first-round stoppage loss at the hands of Fabio Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs), returns on the undercard as he takes on Ebenezer Tetteh (23-2, 20 KOs), who was last in action against Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs).
Elsewhere on the card, Sam Eggington (35-9, 20 KOs) will return for his first TV bout in two years as he faces Lee Cutler (15-1, 7 KOs) in an entertaining junior-middleweight clash.
Cutler last overcame Stephen McKenna (15-1, 14 KOs) in an upset victory on the Natasha Jonas-Ivana Habazin undercard in December, flooring the Irishman in the process.
Eggington is a former European welterweight and IBO junior-middleweight champion, and holds notable wins over Paulie Malignaggi, Ashley Theophane and Carlos Molina.
Former European middleweight champion Tyler Denny (19-3-3, 1 KO) returns against all-action fighter Elvis Ahorgah (13-3, 12 KOs), who gave Callum Simpson a bruising five rounds of action before he was stopped on the Adam Azim-Sergey Lipinets undercard on Feb. 1st.
