Ben Whittaker Insists He'll Leave No Doubt Against Bullish Cameron in April 20 Rematch
Liam Cameron looks jaded and tells anyone in earshot he's only had two hours' sleep. This won't stop him refusing to break eye contact with Ben Whittaker during their tense face-off, the day their much-anticipated rematch has been announced for April 20, nor doing a cluster of one-to-one interviews with the assembled media.

He sharply stops after one to take a moment, musing aloud why Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) isn't having to do the same media rounds, before discussing Callum Simpson's Oakwell callout and why Artur Beterbiev will again reign supreme in next weekend's undisputed light-heavyweight rematch.

On the role of his coaches in building him back after losing a 10-round split decision to former IBO world champion Lyndon Arthur (24-2, 16 KOs) in June, he tells The Ring: "I had a good camp, broke my nose three weeks before so had to stop sparring early but you get injuries, I'll fight through them and did, which paid off. I've just worked hard, if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. I'm hyper focused on boxing, looking after my kids, that's all."

Whittaker, unbothered on stage and eating pasta as Sky's Andy Scott addressed everyone else, remains confident he'll banish any doubts in two months' time after a freak ending to a competitive contest.

"To me, there's no animosity and it's just another fight, I've had rematches and trilogies in the amateurs, he's more emotionally attached to this - which he should be - gave him this new fame and followers, that bucket hat and a new hairline too. All I can say is, April 20, I deal with him and move on. He turned up his best, I turned up my worst and he couldn't do much... he threw me over the ropes. It looked like two drunk kids coming out of Wetherspoons, we'll share a burger or something after I win."

In response to that, how does Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KOs) make things different - continuing where he left off and not allowing Whittaker an opportunity to get settled, as was the case first time around?

"I don't have to do nothing, I'll just be me. He's got a lot of points to prove, I was doing alright... he's got a lot to change and maybe it might not work for him, always changing doesn't mean you're going to be better. I had two weeks off, been in the gym ever since, we don't do camps. I'll be ready."

Whittaker, said to have sprained his ankle and aggravated a longstanding neck issue following their October 12 clash, will main event a card for the first time when headlining Birmingham's bp pulse LIVE.

Originally set up to be an exciting showcase on Saudi shores for the 27-year-old, an Olympic silver medallist from a coronavirus-impacted Tokyo 2020, the controversy from their draw and ensuing fallout represented a blessing in disguise.

"Everyone saw what happened, it [the time off] was a great time, I didn't have to post nothing... just go to the gym and train hard, it was amazing. That's what got me to the Olympics and got me talked about, we'll see it again," he continued during his portion of their inaugural press conference.

Newly-minted British champion Lewis Edmondson (10-0, 3 KOs) said he'd signed a contract to box Whittaker last year, while Queensberry-backed unbeaten contender Ezra Taylor (10-0, 7 KOs) has his sights set on big domestic honors too after the former's majority decision win over former European titleholder Dan Azeez for a title vacated by Joshua Buatsi last year.

Whittaker, part of Sky's commentary team for Buatsi-Azeez this time last year, believes he belongs at world level and will show the minerals to justify his flashy tendencies before long. First things first, there's unfinished business to take care of.
