It is currently a matter of 'when' and not 'if'
Chris Eubank Jr will box again, according to his promoter Ben Shalom.
The 36-year-old was
soundly beaten by Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 15 and looked a shadow of the fighter who has emerged as one of British boxing's most famous faces over the last decade.
In the immediate aftermath of the defeat, Eubank
refused to discuss his future or reveal what had gone wrong during the training camp ahead of what was his rematch with Benn, a man he had beaten on points seven months earlier.
It has been suggested that Eubank, set to become a father for the first time to twin boys, may decide enough is enough after the nature of the defeat. His father Chris Senior has already called for him to retire while
his cousin Harlem recently told The Ring that Junior has nothing left to prove in the sport.
But now his promoter Shalom, the Boxxer head, has revealed that he fully expects the Brighton man to box again after a period of reflection.
He told
The Ring: "I believe it's a when he will fight again and not an if right now. I believe he will now have the time needed to recover.
"He threw 30 per cent of the punches that he could in the first fight, his body was not there and he was not ready. He was not able to do what he needed it to do. And look, there's reasons for that, that aren't my place to even talk about.
"The main thing for me is when he fights again, he needs to have dealt with that. From speaking to him, I feel like he's got the motivation to fight again so now he's going to have to deal with that and what happened."
Eubank Jr and Benn
had engaged in one of the Fights of the Year when clashing for the first time at Spurs on April 26, headlining The Ring's Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves show.
Eubank claimed a unanimous decision that night, via three 116-112 scores, but Benn completely turned the tide against a toothless version of the Brighton star during their return meeting. He almost forced a stoppage in the final round but Eubank managed to climb to his feet twice in order to hear the final bell.
On the performance, Shalom added: "That was not Chris Eubank Jr in the ring that night, I know that, you know that, anyone who has watched him over the last 15 years knows that.
"Now it is time for him to make sure he is going into the ring at 100 per cent, not 50 or 60. That's what he was and it wasn't nice for him. He managed to get through the rounds and give us all a massive spectacle. But it wasn't him.
"Was that because the fight was at middleweight? I don't know. Maybe I'd be more comfortable with him fighting at super-middleweight from now on."
