Beatriz Ferreira on Caroline Dubois Fight News: 'I Am Not Surprised... But Of Course It's Disappointing'
Beatriz Ferreira expected this to be the case.

The two-time Olympic medalist and reigning IBF lightweight titlist was among those let down by the news of Caroline Dubois’ latest matchup. BOXXER announced that London’s Dubois (10-0-1, 5 KOs) will defend her WBC 135-pound title against Bo Mi Re Shin (18-2-3, 10 KOs), a career junior lightweight (No. 2 at 130 by The Ring) who move up for first career title fight.

Their bout will serve as the co-feature to the March 7 Lauren Price-Natasha Jonas RING, WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight championship at Royal Albert Hall in London. Ferreira (6-0, 2 KOs) hoped to land a unification bout against Dubois that would have crowned a new RING champion at lightweight. She even made her services available, but the callout fell on deaf ears.

“I am not surprised with this news but of course it is disappointing,” Ferreira told The Ring. “Caroline says she is not ready for the fight, but I don't understand this mentality.”

Dubois, The Ring’s No. 1 lightweight, will attempt the second defense of the WBC title she claimed after Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) vacated her to remain at 140, where she is The Ring and undisputed champion.

Ferreira, The Ring’s No. 2 lightweight, equally benefited from the move, having won her IBF belt last spring. She took a break from the pro game after her April 27 title haul over Yanina del Carmen Lescano to concentrate on her second Olympic run last summer in Paris.

Following her bronze medal haul, Ferreira resumed her pro career with a ten-round shutout of France’s Licia Boudersa last Dec. 14 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Dubois made her first title defense one month later and was dominant early before a clash of heads preempted her Jan. 11 clash with Jessica Camara. The fight ended in a disappointing draw since it ended at the start of the third round, which made it ineligible to go to the scorecards.

Fans called for a unification bout afterward. Dubois and BOXXER sought out three-division and reigning WBO 135-pound titlist Terri Harper (15-2-2, 6 KOs), The Ring’s number three lightweight who scoffed at what she felt was a disrespectful financial offer.

It was more than was presented to Ferreira, who never even received so much as a phone call. With that, she will now move on to the next option.

“I am a warrior and a natural competitor so if someone challenges me, then of course I want to accept the challenge,” stated Ferreira. “That is what a champion should do. But my career is not about Dubois. She is one possible rival but if she is not interested there are many other rivals and champions for me to fight.

“I just want the biggest fights and challenges because that is how I will make history in this sport. I took a short vacation after my last fight but I am back in the gym working hard now and I hope to have news of my next fight very soon."
