Beatriz Ferreira Calls For Unification Showdown With Caroline Dubois
IBF lightweight champion, Beatriz Ferreira, has called for a unification fight with WBC title holder, Caroline Dubois.

Dubois, 10-0-1 (5 KOs), had a busy Tuesday.

Ten days earlier, the 24 year-old made the first defence of her WBC title against Jessica Camara in Sheffield. Dubois dominated the action from the start but an early, accidental clash of heads caused a cut over the Canadian’s eye. At the beginning of the third round, a ringside doctor deemed her unable to continue and, as four rounds hadn’t been completed, the fight was declared a technical draw.

Quickly scheduled to make the second defence of her title on the undercard of the upcoming unification fight between Ring Magazine and WBA welterweight champion, Lauren Price and her WBC and IBF counterpart, Natasha Jonas, Dubois made her way to the event’s launch press conference.

Sky Sports will televise the all-female show which takes place at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall on March 7th.

After speaking, notably Dubois had nobody to pose for a head to head photograph with.

Later last night, the reason became clear as Dubois took to X to voice her displeasure that a proposed unification fight with WBO champion, Terri Harper, had fallen through.

The Ring’s No.1 ranked lightweight posted the following;

‘Very disappointed in @TerriHarper96 for turning down big money for our fight!! She does not want it’

Ferriera, 6-0 (2 KOs), wasted little time in putting her own name into the mix.

Last summer, the 32 year-old Brazilian’s own mission to unify the 135lb division took a detour through Paris, France as she attempted to create history by adding an Olympic gold medal to her IBF title.

Ferreira performed well and returned home with a bronze medal to go alongside the silver she won at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games.

The Ring’s No.2 ranked lightweight is now fully focused on the professional sport.

Known as ‘The Beast’, Ferreira won the vacant IBF title last April, beating Argentina’s Yanina del Carmen Lescano via technical decision and made a successful first defence in December, shutting out France’s Licia Boudersa over ten one sided rounds.

She posted;

‘Hi @SDuboisC. Did you forget that I am the IBF World champion at lightweight? The Beast is always ready if you want a unification fight? There will be no Sweet Caroline that night. Give @eddiehearn a call and we can make the fight.’

Although both fighters hold world titles, they each hold belts which were vacated by Irish legend and current Ring Magazine super lightweight champion, Katie Taylor.

Ferreira won her IBF title in the ring against Lescano whilst Dubois won the interim version of the WBC belt against Uruguay’s Maira Moneo last August. She was upgraded to full champion in December when Taylor eventually decided to relinquish the title.

Taylor’s are huge shoes to fill and it will be difficult for either fighter to truly separate themselves from the pack and earn recognition as her worthy successor until they prove it in the ring.

Dubois seemed more interested in stirring the pot with current Ring Magazine super featherweight champion, Alycia Baumgardner, than replying to Ferreira’s call-out but whilst finances make it unlikely that a major unification fight between the two would be hurriedly arranged and placed on an undercard, the fight must happen at some point in the not-too-distant future.
