Austin Williams-Patrice Volny To Headline March 15 DAZN Show In Orlando, Florida
An opponent has been finalized for Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams’ first televised headliner.

The Ring has confirmed that the middleweight contender will face Montreal’s Patrice Volny atop a March 15 DAZN show from Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. Williams and his team settled on the veteran contender after sifting through a number of candidates for the assignment.

The bout will be the second for Williams (17-1, 12 KOs) since his lone career defeat last June. The 28-year-old Houston, Texas-based southpaw suffered an eleventh-round knockout against Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0, 17 KOs), The Ring’s No. 2 middleweight, last June 1 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Williams bounced back with a fifth-round knockout of Gian Garrido (11-2, 8 KOs) last Nov. 9 on the DAZN-aired undercard for the Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis-Karen Chukhadzian rematch at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Even with the setback against Sheeraz, Williams will now fight for the fourth time in a span of just over 13 months.

“Ten years ago, I was blessed with a dream, a dream that spelled out boxing in strobe lights,” said Williams. “At that moment, I committed myself to existence through this medium. Every ounce of my focus and energy has been dedicated to achieving this goal. And here we are, announcing the premier of the 'Ammo Show’. The greatness I exude in my shows, will serve as inspiration to the global community.
"The supernatural abilities displayed will allow the wanderer to wander. The viewer will be assured that the unbelievable, is possible. March 15 marks the beginning of my life, the art I brought into this world is now ready to be displayed. I would like to thank, Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing, Peter Berg, Sam Katkovski, Kevin Cunningham, my entire family, and so many more, for making this dream, a reality. There will be laughter, there will be tears, there will be an explosive finish in Orlando.”

Volny (19-1, 13 KOs) is riding a three-fight win streak and his career stock at an all-time high.

The 35-year-old middleweight earned his biggest win to date in a ninth-round stoppage of countryman and former title challenger Steven Butler (34-4-1) last June 6 in Montreal. The assignment versus Williams will mark just the second U.S. appearance for Volny.

His lone other fight on this side of the border was a technical decision defeat to Esquiva Falcao in their Nov. 2019 IBF middleweight title eliminator.

“This is a fight I specifically asked my team for,” said Volny. “I want to thank Matchroom for making it a reality. I believe its a great fight and a logical next step in my career to get where I want to be. It's a great opportunity for me and on March 15, I intend on seizing that opportunity and showing that I belong at the top of the Middleweight division. I will make him pay every second of this fight. Time to go to war!”

As previously reported by The Ring’s Keith Idec, the March 15 Matchroom Boxing show is also expected to feature the pro debut of Omari Jones.

The locally based junior middleweight was the lone U.S. boxer to medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, when he claimed a bronze. Jones dropped a contentious decision to eventual Gold medalist Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev in the light middleweight semifinal round.

“I’m very excited to be fighting in my hometown of Orlando,” said Jones, whose opponent over six rounds will be announced soon. “After fighting so many years overseas getting prepared for the Olympics, I’m ready to make my debut as a professional. I’ll be putting on a great performance for my city. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“What fans can expect from me on March 15 is a masterclass. I want to showcase my skillset along with my speed and power. I want to leave the fans shocked, because of how well I adapt to the professional game; I’ll look like a true veteran. For everything else, they’ll have to wait until March 15th!”
