Arnold Barboza On Jack Catterall Matchup: “I’m Overall A Better Fighter Than Him”
When Floyd Mayweather reached a certain point in his career, he enjoyed highlighting the number of fighters that have failed in their attempts to knock him off. Not saying Arnold Barboza is Mayweather-esque but he’s adopted his form of trash talk in that regard.

With his showdown against Jack Catterall getting closer and closer, Barboza (31-0, 11 KOs) had his drop-the-mic moment by pointing out the obvious, 31 have tried and 31 have failed. There’s almost no rebuttal for that but Catterall has promised to end his streak.

On paper, The Ring’s No. 2 ranked 140 pounder looks like the goods. Barboza though, is apathetic towards the praise Catterall is getting. Once the dust clears next Saturday night, he believes he’ll easily demonstrate that Catterall isn’t, and has never been, on his level.

“I’m overall a better fighter than him,” said Barboza during a face-to-face with Catterall while being moderated by promoter Eddie Hearn.

Ironically enough, both fighters are coming off career-best performances. For Barboza, he took out former unified junior welterweight champ, Jose Ramirez. In the case of Catterall, he dropped, out-hustled, and eventually out-pointed former two-time title holder, Regis Prograis. Before that, he found a way to grab a unanimous decision win over former undisputed champion, Josh Taylor.

Catterall’s recent run has his stock as high as ever. It also has him positioned perfectly in the eyes of all four sanctioning bodies. Yet, for some reason, Barboza believes Catterall’s work is a bit overblown. He views both Taylor and Prograis as aging fighters who were clearly past their best.

Ultimately, however, a win is a win, something Barboza can’t take away from him. Still, even with a handful of credible names under his belt, he’s confident that Barboza isn’t quite ready for someone who has as many tricks up their sleeves as he does.

“I don’t think he’s ever faced anybody like me. He’s gonna find out February 15th.”
