If anyone has gotten the most out of their career, both financially and accomplishment-wise, it’s George Kambosos Jr.
In no time, the popular Australian went from fighting on undercards in obscure arenas to headlining shows in gigantic stadiums. In doing so, he’s now in a different tax bracket.
Although he’s enjoyed his success, he knows that he isn’t fully responsible. Outside of himself, the man who’s been doing a lot of the heavy lifting behind the scenes is his promoter, Lou DiBella.
“It’s been a rocky road, me & DiBella at the start but once I won the belts, he did a helluva job for me,” admitted Kambosos on The Stomping Ground. “He definitely provided the best for his fighter.”
With DiBella by his side, Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) went on to dethrone Teofimo Lopez to become a unified lightweight champion. He also made life-changing money against Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Yet, for all of the money he’s made, Kambosos has failed to recapture the magic he once had. So, in an effort to add to his supporting cast, the 31-year-old recently signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom.
Their new partnership is scheduled to kick off on March 22nd as Kambosos will take on a yet-to-be-announced opponent. As long as he picks up the win, the top dogs at 140 pounds are all on his list.
At this point, Kambosos has a big enough name to make millions of dollars no matter who he fights. And while that’s enticing, the days of him holding a world title are becoming a distant memory. Now, however, with everything slowly coming together, he believes he can change that.
“Having Eddie with me now and Lou and obviously my father and a good team - I feel that there’s a good sense of direction and path to becoming champion again. I see it.”
