Angel Fierro was disqualified Saturday in the third round of
a tune-up fight in Tijuana, Mexico, for kicking opponent Abraham Cordero.
Fierro (23-4-2, 18 KOs) ignored a break ordered by the referee, charged at Cordero, threw a punch, kicked him in the groin, followed by more punches aimed at Cordero (16-6-2, 8 KOs).
The disqualification and disturbing development added another ugly chapter in the career of Fierro, a junior welterweight contender, following a
weigh-in debacle during his July rematch against Isaac Cruz.
The two fought to a Fight of the Year contender in February, which Cruz won by decision, and a sequel was in store for the summer until Fierro pulled out the day before the fight due to safety issues around his weight cut.
