Andrew Moloney: If Chocolatito is Keen To Fight Me, Then 100% I'm Ready To Go
Perennial junior bantamweight Andrew Moloney is determined to reach to top of his division again.

Moloney, rated at No. 7 by The Ring at junior bantamweight, has previously held the WBA Interim 115-pound title but was unable to upgrade to full champion losing two of three fights to then WBA ruler Joshua Franco (UD 12/ ND 2/ UD 12) and came up short when he met rising star Junto Nakatani (KO 12) for the vacant WBO title.

He lost a hard-fought and controversial fight to former WBC 108-pound titlist Pedro Guevara for the WBC Interim title in May 2024 that left him wondering what he could do next. He put the Guevara misfortune behind him and closed out the year with a win over Thai trial horse Jakrawut Majunggoen (KO 3).

"I was desperate to make sure I could squeeze in a fight before the end of the year to start my climb up the rankings and set up a big 2025," Moloney (27-4, 17 knockouts) told The Ring. "I'm now sitting in a great position across all the sanctioning bodies and ready to get my hands on a world title again."

The Australian, whose twin brother, Jason, is a former titleholder at bantamweight, is a month removed from the Majunggoen win but already looking to the future.

"My plan is to become world champion again and nothing less," he said. "I'm hoping my next fight can be an eliminator for either the IBF or WBC world title.

"I would absolutely love the winner of Willibaldo Garcia and Rene Bibiano (Editor’s Note: Garcia-Bibiano fought to a draw for the vacant IBF title and are tabbed to meet in a rematch to fill the vacancy.) I watched their first fight and I'm extremely confident I can beat either one of them."

He'd also no shy in stating he'd like to mix it up with former four-weight world champion Roman Gonzalez.

"It would be a dream come true to share a ring with "Chocolatito,"' he said gushing. "He is a legend of the lighter weight divisions.

"I heard that he was fighting [Phumelele] Cafu for the WBO world title but if that fight doesn't go ahead and "Chocolatito" is keen to fight me, then 100 percent, I'm ready to go."

Meanwhile, Moloney isn't standing on ceremony and is staying sharp whilst he waits on his next fight.

"I had one day off after my last fight and then got straight back in the gym," he said. "I'm feeling great and ready for any opportunity that comes my way."

Moloney, turned 34 on January 10, is now at the veteran stage of his career, having been a professional for over a decade.

However, that's not to say he feels he is slowing down at all.

"Well, that's what my ID says but I don't feel 34," he remarked. "I still feel like I'm improving everyday as a fighter and can feel the benefit of all the experience I now have.

"The best is still yet to come in my career, I am sure of that!"

Long-time manager, Tony Tolj, who has expertly guided the brothers from turning pro throughout their respective careers, holds a strong bond with them and hopes to take them both to more success at the highest level.

"We are family, it's that simple," stated Tolj. "We are there for each other in ups and downs.

"They give everything they can for their boxing [careers] and they know I'll give every being of me for them to reach their maximum. Seeing them both become fathers and going through stages in life, it's honor to represent them.

"The year will have Andrew Moloney and Jason as two-time world champions."
