Amanda Serrano said Thursday she’s “disappointed that Katie Taylor did not keep her word and make the trilogy 12 three-minute rounds, equal to the men.”
Serrano publicly lobbied for her first meeting with Taylor - which she lost via split decision in April 2022 - to be contested over 12, three-minute rounds but instead they fought over the standard 10, two-minute rounds for women’s championship fights.
Serrano again pushed for the extra minute and two additional rounds for the November rematch, but once again it didn’t materialize. Serrano lost that fight, too, in another disputed decision.
She’ll look to finally defeat Taylor when they meet July 11 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, but Serrano will once again fight under the standard rules.
“I’m disappointed that Katie Taylor did not keep her word and make the trilogy 12 three-minute rounds, equal to the men,” said Serrano. “This is a record-setting payday for both of us, and we owed it to the fans to honor the handshake deal we made.
“She didn’t. But make no mistake, every time we share the ring, it is war, and I know Friday, July 11, will be the greatest yet because I will finally get the official ‘W’ I deserve.”
The undisputed junior welterweight championship trilogy fight will be streamed on Netflix and will headline an all-women's card promoted by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
Serrano did once compete in a title fight contested over 12, three-minute rounds. That was in October 2023, a shutout decision over Danila Ramos. Serrano is The Ring’s No. 4 pound-for-pound boxer; Taylor is No. 2.
Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) is a seven-division champion who currently holds The Ring/WBA/WBO titles at featherweight. Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) has held undisputed titles at two weights.
