Aloys Junior Targets British Champion Viddal Riley After David Jamieson Destruction
Aloys Junior has set his sights on a British cruiserweight title showdown with Viddal Riley after dismantling Scotland’s David Jamieson in Glasgow last night.

London-born Junior (10-1, 9 KOs) dropped the Scotsman in each of the first two rounds and then brought matters to a sudden, violent finish with a beautifully disguised left hook in the third. The impressive win earned him the vacant Commonwealth title.

Junior will have realised extremely quickly that he had the beating of Jamieson (13-4, 10 KOs) but didn’t allow himself to become complacent or ragged. The 22-year-old is known for his explosive offensive output but his defensive work was just as noteworthy and he absorbed only 13 shots over the course of the fight.

Junior is a high energy, excitable character in and out of the ring and cut a confident figure throughout fight week, turning up at Thursday’s press conference in sunglasses and a suit and ramping up the national rivalry by arriving at the weigh in dressed in an England football shirt.

Once the biggest night of his life arrived, he went about his business calmly and efficiently.

Junior’s raw talent has never been in question but he has clearly been working on improving his ring craft. That extra percentage of composure could prove to be highly valuable once he starts mixing with dangerous opponents who force him to think his way through fights.

“Without a doubt. I told you, I want greatness. You guys thought I was just putting shades on, acting like a bad man. I’m really that guy,” he told Queensberry after the fight.

“I wasn't focused on when I'm going to knock him out, I’m just focused on making the right decisions at the right time.

“I didn't try to rush him out, that's silly. I'm not an amateur anymore, I'm a champion and that's what I'm here to do. I’m here to dominate.”

The British cruiserweight scene is undergoing a changing of the guard. Former WBO champion, Chris Billam-Smith, still leads the way but Junior is now a significant member of a younger chasing pack that includes British champion, Viddal Riley (13-0, 7 KOs), and English titleholder, John Hedges (11-0, 3 KOs).

Just last month, the clever, classy Riley was handed a slot on Ring Magazine’s first ever event and grabbed his own opportunity to impress with both hands.

Riley relieved 2020 Olympian, Chev Clarke, of his British title with an outstanding display of boxing on the undercard of the middleweight grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.

For the time being, Junior is still a step behind Riley but is quickly gaining ground on his fellow Londoner. A fight between the two would be a real meeting of fire and ice and although Junior has plenty of potential targets and routes forward at 200lbs, Riley is the man he is targeting.

“I want all the smoke. Whoever wants it can get it. If Vidal wants me, I'm here, baby. If Vidal Riley wants me I am here,” he said.

“He will try to run away from me but I will cut that ring off. He ain't going nowhere. I'll make sure of it.”
