In early March we learnt that professional boxing would be returning to Cuba for the first time since the 1960s.
We knew Julio Cesar la Cruz, Arlen Lopez, Erislandy Alvarez and Lazaro Alvarez would be appearing on the AGON Sports show at the Meliá International hotel, Varadero, on Friday April 11. The event will be broadcast on TyC Sports.
However, what we didn't know until now was who would be in the opposing corners.
In the main event, two-time Olympic gold medalist la Cruz (3-0, 3 knockouts) will be facing former cruiserweight title challenger Dilan Prasovic (18-5, 15 KOs) in a WBA bridgerweight title eliminator for the right to face WBA ruler Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, who he owns two wins over, most notably in the final of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Double Olympic champion Arlen Lopez (2-0, 2 KOs) will look to make a statement when he faces Martin Ezequiel Bulacio (14-8, 10 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight contest.
2024 Olympic gold medalist Erislandy Alvarez (3-0, 1 KO) will face the experienced Brainer Vasquez Soli (21-5-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight bout.
Three-time Olympic bronze medalist Lazaro Alvarez (6-0, 3 KOs) will take on Dominican Republic's Miguel Queliz Santos (10-0-1, 4 KOs) over 10-rounds at lightweight.
Meanwhile, at junior lightweight Moussa Gholam (22-1, 13 KOs) is tabbed to face Misael Vasquez (17-4-1, 15 KOs) over 10-rounds.
The event will also see Yakelin Estornell Elizastegui make her debut against Lina Tejada (13-5-1, 10 KOs) in the first ever female professional fight.
Tickets are available at all Melia and Gran Caribe hotels in Varadero and Havana.
