Michael Hunter hates wasting his time. And the 37-year-old heavyweight contender feels he's been played with.
For the last few weeks, Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) was under the impression that a showdown against
Jarrell Miller was signed, sealed, and delivered for Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 11 ...
until it wasn't.
Both sides have pointed the finger at one another, but Hunter has accepted the fact that he won’t be facing the brash New Yorker. However, now he doesn’t have an opponent or a date.
Hunter doesn't want to sit on the sidelines for a longer than necessary amount of time, nor does he want to play matchmaker. But he does have a name in mind.
“I think Agit Kabayel would be a good fight,” Hunter told Chris Mannix on his YouTube channel. “I think that’s a very good fight.”
Kabayel (26-0, 18 KOs) isn’t the type to turn down a challenge, but before considering Hunter, or anyone else for that matter, he wants to play the waiting game.
Thanks to his
win over Zhilei Zhang on February 22 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he found himself in an ideal position. Not only was his sixth-round KO arguably the biggest victory of his career, it also secured him the WBC interim title.
Having it in his possession is a good start, but ultimately, what he truly wants is
Oleksandr Usyk’s spot.
The current undisputed heavyweight titlist is Kabayel’s No. 1 target. But that doesn’t mean he’ll get the call.
Before he stopped Zhang,
Kabayel impressed in back-to-back outings against Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez, stopping both men in their tracks.
Scary would be a good way to describe Kabayel and his aggressive fighting style. But while some may shy away from him, his reputation attracts Hunter even more.
“He’s on that boogeyman side,” Hunter continued. “Those are the guys I like to fight.”
