Agit Kabayel's Germany homecoming close to completion, Nelson Hysa in running
LONDON — The Agit Kabayel homecoming first reported by The Ring in June is on the verge of being announced, and fellow undefeated puncher Nelson Hysa could be his opponent.

The popular German has not boxed since he stopped Zhilei Zhang in the sixth round of their clash at ANB Arena, Riyadh on February 22.

That victory over the big Chinese southpaw was the latest on a five-fight knockout streak which also included inside-distance victories over previously unbeaten pair Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez.

It was also a victory which secured the WBC interim title for Kabayel, 32, further confirming his status as one of the most deserving challengers in the division. The combined record of his previous four opponents is 88-3-1.

But while Ring and undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk sits out with an injury, WBA interim champion Fabio Wardley is set to fight the WBO interim champion Joseph Parker.

The winner of that fight will face Usyk next while the IBF mandatory slot, held by Derek Chisora, is the next in line for a crack at the belts should they stay unified.

Rather than wait around, Kabayel (26-0, 18 KOs), with just two fights to show for the last 21 months, is set for a return to the ring before the end of the year.

And, as reported by The Ring this summer, his promoters Queensberry have arranged a homecoming show in Germany for him to headline. It will be the Bochum man’s first outing in his home country since March 2023 and the date and opponent is on the verge of being finalised.

Promoter Frank Warren said: “We are announcing a fight in Germany in the next few weeks.

“I’ve promised him he can fight in his home country and that will happen. He will headline a show in Germany against a top 10 fighter.”

It is understood that Hysa (23-0, 21 KOs) is in the running. The 41-year-old Albanian's last outing was a second-round knockout of Patrick Korte in Ipswich, England, on the Queensberry show headlined by Wardley’s win over Justis Huni.

Hysa, who has been a pro for just three years and one month, is ranked at No. 7 (WBA) and No. 9 (WBO) and, crucially, remains under contract with Queensberry.

The potential fight between Kabayel and Hysa is also likely to sell well in Germany given the significant Albanian population there.
