Adam Azim's Next Move To Be Announced Imminently, His Trainer Confirms
LONDON, England — The next steps for Adam Azim are set to be finalized within the next fortnight following more than six months of inactivity.

The 23-year-old posted a career-best win against Sergey Lipinets on February 1 with at Wembley Arena.

Azim dropped the former IBF world champion in the third round before eventually stopping him early in the ninth, securing a victory that fired him into the top 10 with three of the four major sanctioning bodies.

He has had to play the waiting game ever since that night but now his trainer Shane McGuigan said that news about the youngster's next move is imminent.

"It's relatively close to being done," McGuigan told The Ring. "It should be in the next week or so but there are one or two moving parts that we've got to finalise so I can't give you any more insight than that."

Azim has boxed exclusively on Boxxer shows since 2021 and is considered one of the stars of their stable. However it is unclear where his future will lie given Boxxer’s split with Sky Sports.

Boxxer have since announced a new broadcast deal with the BBC, but there have been no further details about which fighters will feature, or even when and where the first event will take place.

McGuigan did confirm that the Slough man is back in the gym with an agreement close.

When asked about Azim's situation with Boxxer, McGuigan added: "I can't comment on that.

“We are working hard to make sure every move is the right one. There is no shortage of people that want to put money up for him, it’s more just the fact that to get credible opponents and put the money up for him, too, that's the whole point.

“We don't want to just go with someone that's going to give him a load of money up front for him but then we’ve got 45p to pay for an unknown opponent. It doesn’t make any sense.

“He's still a developing star and going to be one of these guys that's going to excel massively with his fights. That's not necessarily just shaking his shoulders out against anyone.

“He’s still super young so we’ve got to look at the projected vision. It’s not a quick-buck scenario. I know in this game you’re not guaranteed tomorrow but we’ve got to try and find the balance.”

However, it is clear that despite his high ranking across the board, the former European junior welterweight champion is unlikely to fight for a belt just yet.

McGuigan added: “Honestly I feel like he’s ready to go right now and I don’t necessarily think another hard eight, 10- or 12-round fight will make him much of a better fighter.

“But from an exposure standpoint, we want people to know who he is and genuinely really be excited to watch him box for a world title, rather than just saying, 'Oh, there's a guy from England that's boxing for a world title, sweet, let's tune in.'

“We want him to be a bit more established in terms of a draw before that happens. If you can't generate the money and you're world champion, you're in a very bad position. You've got to build your brand before you get to that world level, so that's our mission for him.”
