Masood Abdulah (11-0, 7 KOs) and Zak Miller (15-1, 3 KOs) have had the newly-vacated British title added to their intriguing featherweight fight, which takes place at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena on February 8th.
Nathaniel Collins has relinquished the title after a long spell on the sidelines. Last May - and just ten days after outpointing Francesco Grandelli to win the European Silver title - the talented Scotsman was rushed to hospital with unbearable pain in his abdomen. Doctors diagnosed him with a life-threatening twisted bowel and he underwent an eight hour emergency operation to repair the damage.
Collins has understandably taken his time to recover from the ordeal and although scheduled to return in February, has made the decision to vacate the British title he won back in March 2023 with two subsequent title defences.
One of those defences came against Miller. In November 2023, the two put on an exciting, high-quality twelve rounder that Collins won by close majority decision.
Miller rebounded by beating the previously-undefeated Lewis Frimpong to win the English title and now gets a second crack at the prized belt. Abdulah has been calling for a major title opportunity for some time, having won the Commonwealth belt by outpointing George Stewart last September and now gets his chance.
The Abdulah-Miller contest was already a high stakes affair but the winner will hold all of the major domestic titles, putting themselves directly into the mix for some even bigger bouts.
